Digital construction increasingly depends on professionals who can translate spatial information into decisions about sites and infrastructure. Reality capture and 3D technologies are becoming more closely connected with how built environments are documented and managed. Geo Week’s GEO Empower Event Scholarship addresses the workforce side of that transition by giving university students direct exposure to the geospatial industry.
Now in its third year, the scholarship is open to university students in the United States who are interested in applying geospatial technology for positive social or environmental impact. Selected recipients will receive a full Geo Week conference pass and complimentary hotel accommodation. Travel support and onsite mentorship will further reduce barriers to participating in the event.
The program is becoming a cornerstone of Geo Week’s wider workforce development initiative. A volunteer Workforce Development Committee composed of industry professionals and educators will help guide student engagement and career development opportunities. Industry organizations can also support the initiative through dedicated workforce development sponsorships.
The connection with construction extends beyond workforce development. Geo Week’s conference program covers digital workflows for AEC and BIM-GIS integration, while reality capture and large-scale digital twins are among its technology areas. These capabilities are relevant to construction organizations working to improve how physical conditions are captured and incorporated into project decisions.
Geo Week 2027 will take place from February 23 to 25 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Scholarship applications remain open through October 30. The event brings together geospatial and mapping professionals around technologies that support real-world applications, including architecture, engineering and construction.
Construction Business Review is serving as a media partner because the initiative aligns with its coverage of emerging technologies and workforce considerations affecting project delivery. The publication serves builders and engineering firms alongside technology providers across the construction ecosystem. Its editorial coverage can extend Geo Week’s discussion by examining how stronger geospatial capabilities can help construction organizations apply digital tools more effectively.
Construction’s technology transition depends on people as much as software or equipment. By connecting students with industry knowledge and professional mentorship, the GEO Empower scholarship creates an early pathway for emerging talent to understand how geospatial technologies are being applied across the built environment.
