Bird Construction [TSX: BDT]: Connecting Industrial Construction and Maintenance through Integrated Capabilities

Bird Construction [TSX: BDT]

Connecting Industrial Construction and Maintenance through Integrated Capabilities

Industrial projects rarely end when construction is completed. Facilities require maintenance, turnarounds, sustaining capital work and specialized services long after they enter operation. Bird Construction [TSX: BDT] approaches this extended lifecycle through a combination of construction, self-performed trades, fabrication and industrial maintenance. Together, these capabilities enable it to support clients from project delivery to ongoing facility support. Its model is built around the depth of execution. Bird Construction directly performs earthworks, concrete, process mechanical, electrical and instrumentation work, alongside numerous fabrication activities. By keeping these critical scopes in-house, it maintains greater control over labor, schedules, costs and quality while minimizing handoffs across disciplines on complex industrial projects. Fabrication extends the same approach beyond the jobsite. Bird Construction assembles specialty modular skid units and produces industrial modules like electrical houses, water facilities and process piping. Mechanical, electrical and instrumentation teams coordinate from design through commissioning to address issues before equipment reaches the field. The result is a delivery path that connects engineered components, construction activity and final installation under one coordinated structure. Safety is integrated into Bird Construction’s approach to project and maintenance work. It focuses on identifying and controlling risks before they affect workers and trade partners. This approach was reinforced through its 2025 safety program, which introduced High Energy Control Assessment and shifted workers and trade partners to Type II hard hats with chin straps.

Vancouver General Contractors

Integrated Design-Build Home Renovation

Hussain Khatheer, Founder and General Manager

Homeowners choosing a renovation firm tend to worry about the same handful of concerns, the cost that turns out to be “extra,” the decision they didn't know they needed to make or the week that goes quiet because no one explained what was happening next. Vancouver General Contractors removes those uncertainties with one team, one contract and one point of accountability, covering everything from kitchen and bathroom renovations to full custom home and commercial builds. Every project begins with a project consultant who maps out decisions and timelines at the first meeting. The same consultant, along with a designer and project manager, then guides the project through to the final walkthrough, and every completed job is backed by a minimum two-year warranty. “I measure success by how simple we can make a complex renovation process. When clients understand each step, decisions become easier and projects move forward with confidence,” says Hussain Khatheer, founder and general manager. This framework shapes nearly every decision the firm makes, including how it helps clients visualize their finished space before construction begins. Seeing the Finished Space Before Construction The approach traces back to one uncomfortable meeting early in Khatheer's career. While pricing jobs from floor-plan sketches, he met a client reviewing a plan she loved, pointed to a room and asked if it was her bathroom. It was her closet. He realized homeowners were approving designs they couldn't truly visualize, and every signature carried a disagreement waiting to surface once construction began.

BAT Construction

Setting the Standard in Geotechnical Stabilization

Dan Sims, President

An unstable mine highwall, a rock face above an active railway or critical infrastructure exposed to natural hazards can each present an entirely different challenge. Ground conditions change, access is difficult and operations often cannot simply be interrupted. In geotechnical stabilization, there is rarely a standard solution. For more than 37 years, BAT Construction has built its reputation by taking on these challenges across Canada. Its approach combines highly experienced people, specialized equipment, self-performed execution and a culture of problemsolving to deliver complex work safely and efficiently. “We want to be the best at what we do,” says Dan Sims, President. “That means constantly challenging ourselves to be safer, more innovative and better at delivering for our clients.” Built to Solve Difficult Problems BAT owns and operates its specialized equipment and selfperforms its critical work rather than relying heavily on subcontractors. When commercially available equipment has not provided the capability required, BAT has designed and built its own, including high-reach drilling systems and proprietary horizontal drain hole drilling rigs developed for mine pit stabilization. That same problem-solving approach extends to project execution. BAT works with clients and engineers to identify constructability issues, improve methodologies and address risks before they affect safety, cost or schedule. “We don’t want to simply complete a scope and move on,” says Sims. “We want to understand what our client is trying to accomplish, identify where we can add value and become a partner in making the overall project successful.”
