Thank you for Subscribing to Construction Business Review Weekly Brief
Emmanuel Gonzalez, Owner“We are completely honest from the get-go with time and pricing,” says Emmanuel Gonzalez, owner. “We always provide a one-stop solution for the client, and we don't piecemeal the work.”
That approach shapes how Astral manages projects from the first conversation. Referrals remain a major source of new business, while repeat clients account for 60 to 70 percent of Astral’s work. Gonzalez ties those relationships to doing the right thing, honoring commitments, taking ownership and staying available when clients have questions throughout a process that can extend for months.
Understanding the Work Before Designing the Solution
Many requests begin with additions, renovations, new homes or legalization work. South Florida’s hurricane winds also create a steady demand for engineering on exterior structures. Before developing plans, Astral reviews available documentation and city or county records, then conducts site visits and visual assessments to understand existing conditions.
Legalization cases are especially common after homeowners replace windows, extend driveways, enclose garages or make other changes without permits. An apparently isolated alteration can trigger requirements across architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and civil work.
For instance, one project began after a homeowner installed a car charger and received a code violation. Astral reviewed satellite images and gathered the plans held by the city. The investigation revealed that about 20 percent of the back of the house was habitable space and that a former garage had been converted into a room without being legalized.
The original car-charger issue became a much larger assignment. Astral prepared a complete set of plans and advised the homeowner on the work required to legalize the entire house. Numerous systems also needed upgrades because the alteration triggered newer code requirements. This case reflected Astral’s ability to deliver a comprehensive solution rather than addressing only one piece of the problem.
Growth Without Losing Accountability
Astral operates with a small in-house team of three employees who combine their time and expertise across projects. The firm emphasizes integrity, accountability, realistic deadlines and direct communication, including answering client calls rather than leaving questions unresolved. Clients often come to appreciate its original pricing and timelines after comparing alternatives, while completed work has also generated positive ratings and referrals.
The next stage of its growth centers on adding professionals while broadening the firm’s capabilities. Astral plans to bring an experienced certified architect onto the team as it expands further into commercial work. It also plans to strengthen its social media presence through short educational videos that show homeowners how it can assist with their projects.
For Astral, growth does not change the basic approach. Clients still need a clear understanding of what a project requires and how long the route to a compliant solution may take. By staying involved from initial review through resolution, the firm provides clients with continuity in decisions that can otherwise be difficult to navigate.
